Heat Your Seat Device Library Program

Heat Your Seat

2-week device loan - TRU staff and faculty only

The Sustainability Office is excited to offer the Heat Your Seat Device Library program, which is the continuation of our past “Space Heater Defeater” campaign. This program offers the opportunity to try out alternative personal heating devices for your offices for two weeks for free.

Why try this program?

Eco-friendly: reduce energy waste and stay warm without affecting the central heating system.

Comfortable: enjoy personalized heating options tailored to your workspace.

Devices available

  • Seat heaters
  • Heated desktop pads (under keyboards)
  • Electric blankets
  • Heating pads
  • Heated cushions
  • Under the desk heated ceramic plates

Requesting devices

  • Staff and faculty members interested in participating in the Heat Your Seat Device Library program can submit a request by sending an email to sustain@tru.ca and include your name, @tru email, cell phone number, department, your supervisor’s name and email to inform that you are participating in the program and the specific device you would like to try out.
  • Devices will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis to those registered. If the device is currently in use, you can join a waitlist, and once it is available, you will be notified of its availability.

Note

Devices are provided for only a two-week trial period and must be returned afterward. The Sustainability Office is unable to purchase devices or loan them out for more than 2 weeks

If you are interested in purchasing a device for personal use in your office space, please discuss it with your manager. While the Sustainability Office is not involved in purchasing decisions, we can provide a list of approved devices suitable for use on campus.

Feedback

Participants are encouraged to provide feedback on the comfort and effectiveness of the devices.

Heating / cooling analysis

If your workspace feels too cold, please submit an Archibus request. The Facilities department will review and assess the issue. If necessary, they will address the problem and adjust the temperature to comfortable levels. If Facilities does not identify any issue, we recommend visiting the Sustainability Office to borrow a digital thermometer. Over the course of two weeks, record the temperature and the time when discomfort occurs, then provide this additional information to Facilities so they can look for any patterns.
